Lewisham Council's Public Transport Liaison Forum heard that Lime, the e-bike rental company, is issuing almost 1,000 fines monthly to riders in Lewisham for improper parking. Lime warns and/or fines riders for poor parking or abandoning their vehicle in an inappropriate location .

The figures were revealed during a discussion about measures to reduce abandoned e-bikes obstructing footways.

Lime stated that its £20 million London Action Plan includes increasing its on-street team by 60%, resulting in 20 staff working in Lewisham to address parking issues. The company also has a £5 million parking infrastructure fund available to support Lewisham in building additional parking locations.

Beyond fines and physical relocation, Lime launched their 'Respect the Red' campaign in partnership with London boroughs, the police and TfL. This includes investment in rider communications to increase awareness of the rules and legal consequences of red light running, as well as cycle training and partnerships with the police on enforcement.

According to Lime, their teams clear, move, and remove hundreds of vehicles daily in addition to the fines issued. The company says it is committed to working with Lewisham Council to deliver improvements on-street, particularly as the borough's parking bay roll-out continues. The information was provided in response to questions raised at the Public Transport Liaison Forum, according to the 17 December 2025 PTLF - Questions and Answers document.
