Stagecoach has been reminded to adhere to operating restrictions regarding bus parking in Lee Green, following complaints from residents about buses using residential roads as unauthorised standing points.
The issue was raised at the Lewisham Public Transport Liaison Forum on Wednesday, where it was noted that buses have been observed parking or idling on Upwood Road, Cambridge Drive, and Dorville Road. Residents have reported that this practice obstructs driveways and sometimes blocks the road itself.
Stagecoach responded to the concerns by explaining that delays on bus routes sometimes necessitate the use of the Lee Green curtailment point for service control. However, they clarified that this point is only authorised as a 'turning point only'. This means buses are permitted to pause briefly to allow drivers to carry out administrative tasks, such as checking for lost property, which should only take a minimal amount of time. Stagecoach has pledged to remind its drivers and controllers who use the Lee Green location of these operating restrictions.
Transport for London (TfL) also addressed the issue, reiterating Stagecoach's commitment to adhering to the authorised use of the Lee Green curtailment point. The matter was discussed as part of a broader conversation about bus service issues in the borough. This included discussion of the Superloop bus route SL4, and whether TfL will consider reviewing the route to improve bus connectivity for Lewisham residents. TfL stated that they keep their Superloop routes and frequencies under review, but that at present there is no business case to extend the SL4 service from Grove Park on to Bromley, and that additional bus standing areas would be required in Bromley Town Centre to make the extension of the route possible.
