Nisa Local has been granted an alcohol license for its premises at 250 St Johns Way, N19 3RJ, despite the location's history of license revocation. The Islington Licensing Sub Committee A approved the application on Thursday, June 26, 2025, after considering the applicant's proposals and representations from local residents and the police.
The location was formerly The Royal Oak pub, which had its license revoked in 2021 following a review by the police. Concerns were raised by local residents regarding potential anti-social behaviour, public safety, public nuisance, and the protection of children from harm.
Applicant Mr Engin Aslan addressed these concerns by agreeing to incorporate police recommendations into the operating schedule. These include maintaining an incident log and refusals book, preparing fire risk assessments and emergency plans, displaying notices requesting patrons to leave quietly, installing and maintaining CCTV, and operating a 'Challenge 25' scheme. As a result, the police withdrew their representation, and two residents also withdrew their objections after Mr. Aslan responded to their concerns.
Planning permission had been granted for the premises to be used as a retail shop with an ancillary cafe, with opening hours of 07:00 to 23:00, Monday to Sunday. The sub-committee, which included Councillor Heather Staff (Chair of Licensing Committee and Migrants Champion), Councillor Gary Heather, and Councillor Rosaline Ogunro (Deputy Mayor), was also scheduled to consider new premises licence applications for Green Shop and SX Cellers.
