Harrow Council is poised to save approximately £2 million annually with the development of a new special educational needs (SEN) school, designed to accommodate 292 pupils.

The Overview and Scrutiny Committee heard that the council currently spends around £8 million a year on SEN transport, operating a shared service with Brent. The new school, located at 265 The Ridgeway, is anticipated to meet the growing demand for SEN places within the borough. The council anticipates that all 292 spaces in the new SEN school will be utilized by Harrow children to meet this growing demand. It is also suggested that this development may potentially free up mainstream school places for other children.

The development of the new school is projected to save the council around £2 million per year on SEN transport costs alone, a significant portion of the £8 million currently allocated to this service.
