Lewisham Council has approved a new policy to manage events on Blackheath, aiming to balance a diverse programme of activities with the protection of the heath's environment and amenity.
The updated Joint Events Policy for Blackheath, covering 2025 to 2028, was given the green light by Mayor and Cabinet on Wednesday, January 21, 2026. The policy introduces stronger environmental safeguards and clearer processes for event approval.
Councillor Louise Krupski, Deputy Mayor and Cabinet Member for Environment, Transport and Climate Action, who moved the report, highlighted that the policy ensures the continuation of popular events, such as the Blackheath fireworks, while safeguarding the heath. Councillor Schaake spoke in support, noting the success of the fireworks event in bringing the community together. The meeting information specifically mentions the continuation of popular events like the Blackheath fireworks
under the new policy, with no other specific popular events named as continuing.
The policy was developed with input from the Blackheath Joint Working Party, which aims to improve engagement with the local community and stakeholders. The aim is to provide a clear framework for managing events on Blackheath, ensuring its unique environment is preserved for future generations.
