Haringey Council has acquired 12 new homes as part of its commitment to increasing the availability of affordable housing in the borough.

The acquisition of the long leasehold interest in 12 flats at 67 Lawrence Road, London N15 4GL, was approved by the council's Cabinet on Tuesday, January 20, 2026. These new homes will be let at council rents, contributing to the council's pledge to acquire and build 3,000 council homes by 2031.

The homes are expected to meet high standards, aligning with the Greater London Authority's design standards. The decision to acquire the properties was made to secure them at a commercially advantageous price and to maintain momentum in providing affordable housing. The alternative of not acquiring the homes was rejected as it was considered a missed opportunity.

Funding for the acquisition will be part-funded by GLA grant funding, with the option to use additional funding from the General Fund or Right to Buy receipts if GLA funding is not available.

The council is acquiring a 'long leasehold interest' in the 12 flats. This is expected to be a 999-year leasehold interest, as is common practice for such developments where homes are typically sold on new long leases at a peppercorn ground rent.
