Hackney Council's Pensions Committee has adopted a new Voting Policy aimed at enhancing responsible investment practices, ensuring the pension fund's investments align with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles. The updated policy is a key initiative of the Responsible Investment Working Group (RIWG).
The policy, agreed upon during a meeting on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, outlines how the pension fund's votes will be exercised at company shareholder meetings. Its implementation will be overseen by the Group Director Finance & Corporate Resources in collaboration with the committee's Chair and Vice Chair.

The RIWG's efforts are focused on integrating ESG considerations into the fund's investment strategy. This includes exploring various asset classes for local and impact investment, such as residential property, social infrastructure, private credit, nature-based solutions, private equity, and renewable energy infrastructure.

Further details on the RIWG's updates can be found in the PC 21 Jan 2026 - RIWG Meeting Update - Cover Report and PC 21 JAN 2026 - Appendix 1 - RIWG Update v2Final202601072.pdf.
The committee also reviewed the PC 21 January 2026 - Business Plan and Governance Update COVER REPORT 1, which includes information on the risk register for December 2025. The risk register is available in three parts: Governance, Funding Investment, and Admin Comms.

Additionally, the committee received a Quarterly Pensions Administration Update and discussed the Bucks Pension Fund Approval to Join LCIV.
