Islington Council is intensifying its efforts to combat the growing concerns surrounding vaping among young people, with a new educational intervention set to launch in early 2026.

During a recent Health, Wellbeing and Adult Social Care Scrutiny Committee meeting, councillors discussed the proactive measures being taken to educate and protect young people from the risks associated with vaping. The upcoming intervention will incorporate assemblies, PSHE lessons, and peer-mentor models in secondary schools to foster prevention and education. Concerns were expressed regarding illicit and unregulated vapes, which carry greater risks due to unknown chemical composition and variable nicotine strengths. The long-term effects of vaping in young people remain an area of concern, particularly in relation to nicotine addiction.
