Lewisham Council has released a list of locations for Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) on council premises, aiming to improve public safety and emergency response times.
The list, presented at the Health and Safety Committee meeting on 1 July 2025, includes 18 defibrillators located in various council buildings. These devices are maintained by council staff and registered with the London Ambulance Service, ensuring that emergency responders are aware of their availability. The council also uses The Circuit, the national defibrillator network, which maps defibrillators across the UK and connects them directly to ambulance services.
The council's Head of Assurance, Richard Benjamin, and Corporate Health and Safety Manager, Tracey Van Der Merwe, contributed to the report in the Public Reports Pack.
Lewisham Council, as a defibrillator guardian, is responsible for keeping the information about its defibrillators on The Circuit up to date, including access hours, location and status. To ensure accuracy, The Circuit sends reminders every 90 days to inspect the defibrillator and update its status. More information is available on The Circuit's website.

The report clarifies that the list excludes schools and community locations that have independently acquired and maintain their own defibrillators. However, the council plans to collaborate with school health and safety colleagues to create a more comprehensive listing later in the year.
The Health and Safety Committee was also scheduled to discuss the Minutes of the previous meeting and a Corporate Health and Safety Board Update, as outlined in the Agenda.
