Sutton Council is proposing to establish a new hub specifically for families with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) as part of an expansion of its Family Hubs network.

The People Committee agreed to explore proposals for a fifth Family Hub at 3 Robin Hood Lane, which would be dedicated to supporting SEND families.

This initiative is part of Sutton's wider commitment to ensuring all children in the borough have the best possible start in life. The council aims to increase the number of five-year-olds reaching a good level of development by 2028, a target set by the government. Currently, 69% of children in Sutton achieve this milestone, with a particular focus on improving outcomes for disadvantaged children, where the figure stands at 49%.

The proposed SEND Family Hub would complement the council's existing four Family Hubs, which have seen a 48% increase in engagement from families in the most deprived areas since their remodelling in 2023. The expansion aims to provide targeted outreach, enhanced parenting support, and home learning strategies, including digital options.

Councillor Marian James, Chair of the People Committee, welcomed the proposals, highlighting the importance of these services in supporting young families and children with SEND. The plans also involve strengthening information sharing between Family Hubs and health services to ensure seamless support pathways.
