Surbiton residents will soon see new hanging baskets brightening up their streets following approval of community grants by the Surbiton Neighbourhood Committee. The committee met on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, to consider allocations from the Councillor Ward Funding (CWF) programme, which provides £2,000 per councillor per financial year to support local initiatives.

At the meeting, the committee approved funding for several local projects. Among these was £931 for seven hanging baskets to be installed on Ewell Road, which will be fitted to existing street light columns and maintained throughout the summer. The committee also approved £6,750 for three large planters in Berrylands Ward and £1,000 for the Alpha Road Residents Association's Over 60s Easter Lunch.

The Councillor Ward Funding scheme has a total allocation for Surbiton for the current financial year, with the committee having £14,425.60 of CWF remaining at the time of the meeting. Further details on the community grants can be found in the Community Grants Programme Surb Feb 2026 - FINAL.

The meeting also included significant updates on the Seething Wells Filter Beds and the council's work programme.

Seething Wells Filter Beds:

Historic England has declined applications for statutory listing for the Seething Wells Filter Beds, the Former Chelsea Waterworks Drainage Pumping House, and the Former Chelsea Waterworks Boundary Railings. In response, the landowners have indicated they will pursue a planning application and appeal if constructive engagement with the council does not lead to progress on development for homes and open space. Updates were also provided on pursuing environmental schemes and the progress of the River Thames Scheme (RTS) development consent order. More information on these updates is available in the Seething Wells - Updates Feb 2026 - FINAL document.

Council's Work Programme:

Several items were listed for future meetings as part of the council's work programme. These include the Ewell Road Cycle Route Experimental Traffic Management Order, parking issues on Verona Drive, a community safety update, a further update on Seething Wells, and the Tolworth Close Experimental Traffic Management Order consultation. Additionally, the annual review of the Surbiton Neighbourhood Community Plan and a report on the Neighbourhood Manager's Ranger Activity for 2026 are scheduled for future discussions. The Work Programme - 24 Feb 2026 - FINAL provides further details.
