Croydon Council tax bills are set to increase by an average of £119.43 for the 2026-27 financial year, with a significant portion of this rise attributed to a dedicated levy for adult social care.
Residents in Band D properties will see their annual council tax bill reach £2,599.91. This includes an increase of £99.30 for the Croydon element of the tax, which incorporates a 2.00% levy specifically for adult social care services. The Greater London Authority (GLA) precept will also rise by £20.13, bringing its contribution to £510.51.
The Council Tax Setting Committee met on Thursday, 26 February 2026, to formally approve these figures. The meeting was convened urgently following the budget agreement by Full Council the previous day and the confirmation of the GLA precept. The Full Council meeting on 25 February 2026 agreed the 2026-27 budget, which included the 4.99% increase in the Croydon element of the Council Tax, and also established the Council Tax Setting Committee.
The report presented to the committee detailed that the Croydon element of the council tax would increase by 4.99% overall. This decision aligns with Executive Mayor Jason Perry's business plan, aiming to balance the council's books and ensure the delivery of sustainable services.
The full breakdown of the council tax for different property bands, including the Croydon element and the GLA precept, is available in Appendix 1 Calculation of the 2026-27 Council Tax requirement and Council Tax bands of the public reports pack for the meeting, which can be found here.
