Wandsworth Council has controversially granted planning permission for an extension on Thurleigh Road, overriding the objections of its own Conservation and Heritage Advisory Committee. The committee had unanimously objected to the proposed alterations at 89 Thurleigh Road, citing concerns that the design would be objectionable and damaging to the overall design of the house.

The application, which involved a single-storey front extension at first-floor level, new side windows, replacement of a garage door with glazing, and a single-storey rear extension, was ultimately approved by delegated authority. This decision means that despite the committee's strong reservations about the proposed left-hand side of the front elevation not following the gable end of the building, and changes to the roof plan not being properly articulated, the development will proceed.

Concerns were also raised about the change to the garage door, which was felt to be out of character with the rest of the design. The committee had previously noted that the garage itself clearly did not form part of the original house, but no planning permission had been found for its development despite it being a modern garage. However, the committee was advised that it would now likely be considered lawful development as it had been in situ for over five years.
