Tower Hamlets Council's Health & Adults Scrutiny Sub-Committee has reviewed the future commissioning of community equipment services, a vital resource for enabling individuals to live independently at home.

The committee considered a report on the procurement and management of these services, alongside discussions on the commissioning budget and workforce running costs. A significant point raised was the potential impact of manpower reductions, with the workforce running cost budget set to decrease by 50%. While the exact extent of these reductions and the specific resident groups most at risk were not fully detailed, the committee questioned which residents might miss out on services as a result of fewer staff being available to manage the budget.

Further discussions included an update on conversations between the NHS and the Treasury regarding the costs of redundancy for Integrated Care Boards (ICBs).

The meeting also featured a review of the ASC Performance Dashboard for December 2025. This dashboard provided an overview of key performance indicators for adult social care services. While the dashboard was presented for information, Councillor Francis noted that most indicators were on track. However, the inquiries completed within 20 working days for safeguarding inquiries and concerns was highlighted as an area that comes up fairly regularly as not quite on track. Despite this, performance in this area was reported as being above previous years and the expected figures for this point in the year.
