Islington Council's energy advice service has provided a range of support to residents, helping them to reduce their energy consumption and save money. The Seasonal Health Intervention Network (SHINE) and broader energy advice service received 1,969 referrals by December 2025, against a target of 2,700 for the year.
Through the SHINE programme, 7,667 interventions were delivered, including the installation of LED lighting and draft proofing. The service also secured over £10,000 in debt relief for residents and booked 358 Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) and Retrofit Assessments. These assessments help homeowners and landlords understand how to improve energy efficiency in their homes, potentially accessing grants for insulation, boiler upgrades, and solar panels.
The council has also been actively promoting private sector retrofit initiatives. An Introduction to Retrofitting
event saw a 20% increase in attendees' likelihood to install retrofit measures. Ten Energy Advice Pop-Ups engaged 222 residents, and four Energy Saving DIY workshops were attended by 24 residents, all of whom confirmed they would be installing DIY energy-saving items.
A domestic retrofit campaign for renters and homeowners was launched, featuring updated advice on the council's website, interviews on social media, and a dedicated Cleaner Greener
bulletin. For businesses, the council continued to support the Islington Sustainability Network, with 33 Energising Small Business Grants completed, estimated to save 27 tonnes of CO2 per annum. Larger energy grants are also being processed, with three projects approved so far expected to save an estimated 4 tonnes of CO2 per annum.
These initiatives are part of Islington Council's broader commitment to tackling the climate emergency and supporting residents in making sustainable choices.
