Haringey Council's Cabinet has approved the Haringey Homelessness Strategy 2026-2027, a comprehensive plan developed over more than a year following a homelessness review and extensive consultation with stakeholders. The strategy aims to prevent, reduce, and end homelessness and rough sleeping in the borough, aligning with the Council's statutory responsibilities under the Homelessness Act 2002.

The strategy was approved at a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, 10 March 2026. Delegated authority has been granted to the Corporate Director of Adults and Housing, in consultation with the Cabinet Member for Housing and the Director of Finance, to approve an action plan for publication. This plan will outline how the Council and its partners will implement the strategy and detail specific initiatives or programmes to prevent, reduce, and end homelessness.
Crucially, the Council also approved the acceptance of a grant from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) for the Rough Sleeping Prevention and Recovery Grant (RSPARG). This grant totals £2,137,751 for the funding period 2025–26 and is ring-fenced for the purpose of preventing, reducing, and ending homelessness and rough sleeping.
The decision to approve the strategy was made after a thorough review of evidence and extensive engagement with a wide range of stakeholders, including individuals with lived experience of homelessness and organisations that support them. The Council stated that not adopting the strategy was not recommended, as it is required to take its Homelessness Strategy into account when exercising its functions as a local housing authority.
The meeting information does not specify a total budget for the strategy or other funding sources beyond this grant. The full strategy document can be found in Appendix 1 - The Haringey Homelessness Strategy 2026-2027.
