Haringey Council has accepted a significant grant of £2,137,751 from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) to bolster its efforts in preventing and addressing rough sleeping.
The funding, awarded under the Rough Sleeping Prevention and Recovery Grant (RSPARG) for the 2025-26 period, is ring-fenced specifically for initiatives aimed at preventing, reducing, and ultimately ending homelessness and rough sleeping within the borough.
The grant will enable the council to fulfil its statutory responsibilities under key legislation, including the Homelessness Reduction Act 2019, the Care Act 2014, and the Equality Act 2010, by providing crucial housing-related support to vulnerable individuals. This support is designed to help them maintain independent and fulfilling lives within the community for as long as possible.
Furthermore, the funding will contribute to achieving the strategic objectives outlined in the Council's Corporate Delivery Plan 2024-26 and support the strategic aims of Adult Social Care and the borough's Rough Sleeping Strategy 2023-27.
The decision to accept the grant was made by the Cabinet on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. The council stated that rejecting the grant was not an option due to its legal and statutory obligation to prevent and relieve homelessness.
