Haringey Council has officially accepted a £1.5 million grant from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) to fund improvements identified by local communities. The grant, part of the Pride in Place Impact Fund, will enable the council to respond more swiftly to specific local issues raised by residents.

The decision was made during a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. The council has also approved an increase of £1.5 million to its General Fund capital programme to facilitate the delivery of these schemes. This £1.5 million increase to the capital programme is directly related to the acceptance of the grant funding.

Councillor Peray Ahmet, Leader of the Council, stated that this investment provides a unique opportunity to deliver on both the council's corporate priorities and the priorities of local people and stakeholders. These priorities had been identified and developed through extensive engagement as part of Shaping Tottenham and Shaping Wood Green, in alignment with the principles outlined within the Haringey Deal. This approach is intended to build on previous engagement, strengthen relationships between the council and local residents, amplify the voices of seldom-heard communities, and enhance civic pride across the borough.

The funding carries a spend deadline of March 2027, making prompt action essential to avoid the funds being repaid to MHCLG. If the grant is not spent by this deadline, the funding would have to be repaid, and the shortlisted projects would not be delivered, representing a lost opportunity to meet council and stakeholder priorities.

The funding will be allocated to specific projects based on priorities identified through extensive engagement with local communities. The allocation against each project is indicative at this stage, and project proposals are high-level and subject to further scoping and refinement. Delegated authority has been granted to the Corporate Director of Culture, Strategy and Communities to vary the schemes and budgets within the overall grant received, allowing for flexibility as more detailed information emerges during project refinement.

The council has already received the first tranche of funding in October 2025 and is holding it in a dedicated account. The approval allows for the allocation of these funds to relevant projects, with detailed scoping and refinement to follow.
