Greenwich Council is exploring the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance efficiency across its services, with pilot projects showing promising results.
The Organisation and Communities Scrutiny Panel reviewed the council's Digital Strategy and the implementation of AI and automation tools during a meeting on Thursday, 12 March 2026.
Several AI initiatives are already underway. Pilots for AI-generated social care case notes have demonstrated potential for significant efficiencies, and a business case is being developed for the wider rollout of this technology. An AI product designed to create internal meeting minutes has also shown promise, although alternative solutions are being considered.
Beyond these areas, the council is exploring AI tools for redaction and deduplication to assist with Freedom of Information (FOI) and Subject Access Requests (SAR). Generative AI features for document creation are also being assessed in a small-scale pilot.
To support staff in adapting to these changes, all IT users have access to Microsoft's AI Co-pilot for personal productivity, with training being offered across the organisation.
