Hounslow's Cabinet has approved major regeneration plans for Charlton House and Albany Estate, paving the way for the direct delivery of 182 new council homes and ground-floor commercial space. This development is a significant step towards the Council's commitment to building 1,000 new council homes.

The existing buildings at Charlton House and Albany Estate are described as being amongst the poorest in the borough and no longer economical to maintain to Decent Homes standards. Demolition of these structures commenced in May 2025 and is scheduled for completion by March 2026. The construction phase is slated to begin on-site in September 2026, with the overall regeneration project expected to take up to fifteen years to complete. The first new homes are anticipated to be ready around 2032.

Community engagement has been a key aspect of the regeneration process. Residents of Charlton House and Albany Estate overwhelmingly supported the estate's redevelopment in a February 2021 ballot. The plans include substantial improvements to public realm and the creation of over 2,500m² of green space . These improvements aim to benefit both estate residents and the wider neighbourhood, with the reinstatement of traditional streetscapes and the creation of new streets intended to integrate the development more effectively into its surroundings. This is expected to foster community cohesion and reduce stigma.

For related projects, such as the Convent Way development, an Engagement Plan has been developed for the next stage of the project . The Council intends to re-establish a physical presence on the estate through drop-in sessions and surgeries, acknowledging that a tailored approach will be required to rebuild trust and restore previous levels of engagement.
