Islington Council has launched a new Crisis and Resilience Fund aimed at tackling the root causes of financial hardship and providing support to residents facing poverty. The fund, which replaces the central government's Household Support Fund, offers a three-year funding commitment, a significant improvement from the previous six-month cycles.

The initiative, approved by the Islington Council Executive on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, will provide immediate support to individuals and families in crisis, alongside wraparound services designed to address low income and build financial resilience. This aligns with the council's broader objective to end poverty within the borough.

Councillor Flora Williamson, Executive Member for Finance and Performance, highlighted the importance of the longer funding commitment, stating that it allows for a more strategic approach to supporting residents. The fund aims to move beyond immediate relief to address the underlying issues that lead to financial instability.
