Croydon Council has confirmed the salary packages for two senior officer positions, with the Director of Streets and Environment set to earn between £129,900 and £135,064, and the Director of Culture and Community Safety to receive between £118,680 and £123,390.
The figures were agreed by the Appointments & Disciplinary Committee during a meeting held on Tuesday, March 24, 2026. The committee conducted interviews for both vacant roles. However, the press and public were excluded from these discussions. This exclusion was based on a resolution that the interviews would take place during a Part B session, which was designated to exclude the public. The motion cited the likely disclosure of exempt information falling within paragraphs 1 and 2 of Schedule 12A of the Local Government Act 1972, as amended, as the grounds for this decision.
The salary for the Director of Streets and Environment position reflects a Grade 3 pay scale and includes a 3.2% national pay award effective from April 1, 2025. The previous incumbent's position was vacant, and the role had been temporarily covered by Mark Baignant. The need for permanent recruitment was stated to provide continuity in the leadership of the Directorate.
Similarly, the Director of Culture and Community Safety role, a Director Grade 2 position, also incorporates the 3.2% national pay award. This post was previously held by Kristian Aspinall, and responsibilities had been shared among Heads of Service in the interim.
Details regarding the roles and salary packages for both positions were available in the agenda pack from a previous meeting on March 11, 2026. The appointments are subject to the Council's Constitution regarding staff employment procedure rules.
The committee also approved the minutes from the previous meeting held on March 11, 2026. Executive Mayor Jason Perry chaired the meeting, with Councillor Lynne Hale serving as Vice-Chair. Other attendees included Councillors Jason Cummings, Stuart King, Enid Mollyneaux, and Callton Young, alongside council officers.
