Barking and Dagenham Council's planning department has achieved a significant milestone, with the Beam Park development delivering 50% affordable housing. This was highlighted in a report presented to the Planning Performance Review Sub-Committee on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.
The Authority Monitoring Report (AMR) for 2024-25, available as Authority Monitoring Report 2024-25 Highlights, indicated that while 1,352 homes were permitted, 371 of these were affordable. However, completions for the same period saw 1,564 homes finished, with 710 being affordable, representing approximately 45% of the total.

The report attributed a substantial portion of this success to the Beam Park development, which alone delivered 50% affordable housing. This development, alongside other factors, contributed to the higher percentage of affordable housing completions (710) compared to permissions (371) in the 2024-25 period. The report also noted the delivery of the equivalent of 333 jobs through commercial development and confirmed that all schemes requiring Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments were compliant. Consents for a new school at Beam Park and community spaces were also highlighted as key achievements.

The meeting also reviewed the Authority Monitoring Report for 2024-25, which provides a comprehensive overview of planning performance. The Public reports pack Tuesday 31-Mar-2026 18.00 Planning Performance Review Sub-Committee document contains further details on these achievements and the council's planning activities.
