Hammersmith and Fulham Council's Planning and Development Control Committee has approved plans for a new affordable housing development located between Becklow Gardens and Askew Crescent.
The decision, made on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, grants permission for the redevelopment of land previously occupied by garages and a communal playground within the Becklow Gardens estate.
The approved scheme will see the construction of a part three-storey and part five-storey building comprising 20 dwellings. All of these units will be affordable housing, with 30% designated for social rent and 70% for shared ownership.
The development will also include cycle parking, one blue badge parking space, a communal play area, and public realm improvements. The design of the building has been praised for its contemporary interpretation of the 1930s architectural style found in the original Becklow Gardens buildings, utilising red brickwork with decorative horizontal bands and contrasting white and red brickwork.
Officers noted that the proposal would enhance the street scene and that impacts on neighbouring amenities were considered acceptable. The development would also achieve an 85% on-site reduction in carbon emissions through energy efficiency design and renewable technologies, including air source heat pumps and PV panels.
The scheme also includes contributions towards Upstream London, highway works, and air quality monitoring, all of which will be secured through a legal agreement.
