Bexley Council has approved a £145 million capital programme aimed at enhancing local infrastructure and community facilities. The investment, detailed in the Council's budget for 2026/27, will fund a range of projects including highways maintenance, playground improvements, library upgrades, community centre enhancements, and the provision of assistive technology.

The decision was made during a Council meeting held on Wednesday, 15 April 2026. The capital programme forms a significant part of the Council's overall budget of £271.950 million for the upcoming financial year, as outlined in the Report of the Leader of the Council.

Key areas of investment within the £145 million capital programme include:

  • Highways maintenance: A substantial allocation will be directed towards improving the condition of roads and pavements across the borough.
  • Playground improvements: Over £2.5 million is dedicated to upgrading local playgrounds. Preparations are underway for the full replacement of playgrounds at The Dell, Slade Green, West Heath, and Russell Park, with these enhancements expected by summer/autumn.
  • Libraries and community centres: Investment will be made to enhance these vital community hubs.
  • Assistive technology: Resources will be used to provide assistive technology for care services.

The Council's budget also incorporates a 2.99% increase in the Council Tax share and a 2% increase in the Adult Social Care precept, resulting in a total rise of 4.99%. This financial plan aims to balance essential service provision with necessary investments in the borough's infrastructure.
