Islington's Health, Wellbeing and Adult Social Care Scrutiny Committee has reviewed the Quarter 3 performance report for Adult Social Care, which demonstrated strong performance across all six key indicators. The report, presented by Councillor Sara Hyde, Executive Member for Health and Social Care, highlighted the successful implementation of new admissions criteria for residential and nursing care.

Members of the committee welcomed the ongoing commitment to supporting residents in maintaining their independence and reducing the need for admissions to care homes. During the discussion, it was confirmed that approximately 60% of the 60 new intergenerational extra-care units at Holloway Park would be allocated to residents over the age of 55. This initiative is designed to help more residents remain close to their families and support networks.

Regarding an increase in care-home admissions compared to the previous year, officers clarified that all 143 admissions had been assessed as appropriate, with no concerns identified regarding the provision of home care. This variation will continue to be monitored.
The committee also heard about significant improvements in safeguarding measures, which have been attributed to all partners transitioning to a single recording system. This unified approach has resulted in enhanced data quality, stronger oversight, and increased assurance that residents are being kept safe. Members suggested that this development could serve as a valuable case study for wider organisational learning.
The committee resolved to note the Adult Social Care Quarter 3 Performance Report, which can be accessed in full here.
