Barnet Council has posthumously awarded a Civic Award to Sina Ghami, a strength and conditioning coach who was tragically killed in a car crash in Nigeria on November 29th last year.

The award was presented to Mr Ghami's family during the Annual Council meeting on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.

Mr Ghami, who lived in Colindale and co-founded Evolve Gym in Edgware Road, was recognised for his selfless commitment, time, and dedication in delivering outstanding service to the community. He was the strength and conditioning coach to boxer Anthony Joshua, indicating an international profile. Despite this, Mr Ghami remained firmly committed to the London Borough of Barnet, where he was also educated locally at London Academy Edgware.

The judging panel for the Civic Awards recognised Mr Ghami as a positive role model, particularly for young people. He consistently used his own journey from modest beginnings to elite professional sport to encourage and motivate others, demonstrating the value of perseverance, professionalism, and community responsibility.

He was tragically killed in a car crash in Nigeria on November 29 last year.
