The City of London Corporation is set to address concerns regarding the under-provision of bins in the Farringdon Within ward. The issue was raised during a meeting of the Court of Common Council on Thursday, 21 May 2026.
The Ward of Farringdon Within formally requested that the City of London Corporation address the shortage of bins in the ward. This matter was one of several resolutions from annual wardmotes considered by the Court. A typical process for a ward to formally request action from the City of London Corporation regarding such issues is through a resolution at their annual Wardmote, which is then presented to the Court of Common Council for consideration.
The Court considered a range of resolutions from various annual wardmotes on this occasion. These included:
- Ward of Cordwainer: Expressed concern over cyclists not complying with the Highway Code and asked for strengthened enforcement measures. (See Agenda frontsheet 21st-May-2026 13.00 Court of Common Council)
- Ward of Cripplegate: Raised concerns about transparency, fairness, and accountability in the City of London Corporation's planning process. They proposed restrictions on councillors with property interests or professional associations in the property development industry from sitting on planning committees and called for an independent design review process. (See Agenda frontsheet 21st-May-2026 13.00 Court of Common Council)
- Ward of Dowgate: Recorded opposition to the establishment of a Business Improvement District (BID) covering the ward, citing concerns about a mandatory BID levy imposing a further financial burden on businesses. (See Agenda frontsheet 21st-May-2026 13.00 Court of Common Council)
- Ward of Portsoken: Thanked the City of London Corporation for enforcing responsible e-bike management but urged further encouragement and enforcement of cycle safety, particularly near The Aldgate School. They also expressed deep concern regarding the future of childcare provision at The Aldgate School and requested its retention and continued support beyond 2027. - Ward of Tower: Expressed alarm at the loss of retail and hospitality units at the 47-50 Mark Lane development and asked what the City of London Corporation intended to do to prevent this loss and ensure vibrant cultural use on the site. (See Agenda frontsheet 21st-May-2026 13.00 Court of Common Council)
