Harrow Council's Planning Committee has approved a community-led housing scheme that will provide much-needed affordable homes for vulnerable residents.
The decision, made at a meeting on Thursday, 28 May 2026, granted permission for the redevelopment of a brownfield site to create five one-bedroom dwellings. This community-led affordable housing scheme, supported by Homes in Mind and Harrow Council, aims to provide housing for individuals with lived experience of mental health problems who are at risk of homelessness.
The approved development includes communal and private amenity space, landscaping, and refuse and cycle storage. The decision was subject to a Section 106 legal agreement to secure the provision of these homes as London Affordable Rent in perpetuity.

Councillor Zak Wagman, who had raised concerns about parking provision, noted that the scheme is car-free. This approach was deemed acceptable due to the one-bedroom units and site constraints. Specifically for the scheme at 'Land to the Rear of The Middle Way, Wealdstone', the acceptance of a car-free development was attributed to the one-bed units and the site cannot really accommodate parking space for each dwelling
. The officer also noted that cops have not been proposed
and that the development is within a CPZ zone (though later clarified as not within a controlled parking zone).

For context, a car-free development at 'Amy Johnson Court, Mollison Way, Edgware' was considered acceptable due to the special needs that it's for it's not a requirement for the car
.
