Enfield Council's new Leader, Councillor Alessandro Georgiou, has announced his intention to withdraw the borough from the Newtown process
and has formally informed Tottenham Hotspur Football Club that they are no longer welcome to develop on Whitewebs Park.
The announcement came during the Enfield Council Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, May 27, 2026. Councillor Georgiou stated that his very first act as leader of the council will be taken tomorrow. I will formally sign a letter to the government and the Mayor of London officially withdrawing Enfield from the Newtown process.

Councillor Georgiou promised to protect the greenbelt and areas like Cruise Hill Vicarage Farm and Whitewebs Park. He stated that Whitewebs Park is now secure and will be preserved for the enjoyment of future generations, echoing his sentiment that these areas will be for the many, not the few.
While the meeting does not detail specific alternative uses for these spaces beyond preservation, Councillor Georgiou's commitment suggests a focus on safeguarding these green areas from development.
