King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust recorded a £33.7 million deficit for the 2024/25 financial year, despite delivering £50.8 million in cost savings. The Trust aims to reduce its underlying financial deficit to no more than £120 million by March 2026 to unlock an additional £120 million in one-off funding, according to the Bromley Health Scrutiny Sub-Committee Update_Jul 2025.
Angela Helleur, Site Chief Executive of the Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH), presented the update on behalf of the King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust at the Bromley Council Health Scrutiny Sub-Committee meeting on Thursday 3 July 2025, covering various aspects of the Trust's performance and future plans.
Financial Performance
The Trust's financial performance was a key area of discussion. While a significant amount of cost savings were delivered, the deficit remained substantial. The People teams supported the Trust's cost-improvement plan targets through robust recruitment oversight and efficient redeployment processes. Between March and May, five staff members were redeployed as a result of organisational change, avoiding redundancies.
The Health Scrutiny Sub-Committee noted the update and will continue to monitor the Trust's progress in addressing its financial challenges.
