Islington Council has appointed Councillor Rosaline Ogunro as its new Mayor and Councillor Jilani Chowdhury as Deputy Mayor. The appointments were confirmed at the Council meeting held on Thursday, July 2, 2026.
Councillor Ogunro, who was elected as Mayor for the ensuing municipal year during the Annual Council meeting on 27 May 2026, announced that her chosen charities for her term will be St Luke's Community Centre and Islington Boat Club. She stated, I have been honoured to support their selfless work and how they make a positive contribution to the lives of others.
She further elaborated that These charities carry out amazing jobs with young people, the elderly and isolated.
Councillor Ogunro's election as Mayor was moved by Councillor Pandor, seconded by Councillor North, according to the minutes from the Annual Council meeting. Following her acceptance of office and announcement of her charities, Councillor Ogunro appointed Councillor Chowdhury to the role of Deputy Mayor.
The Mayor's role involves a range of civic duties and engagements. In her first month, Councillor Ogunro reflected on attending celebrations for Arsenal's Premier League win, a flag-raising ceremony for Armed Forces Day, a Metropolitan Police Commendation event, and the awards for Caretaker and Concierge of the Year.
