Croydon councillors have expressed strong disapproval of the balcony design at Boulevard Point on Scarbrook Road, with one describing the perforated metal as horrific
.
During a Planning Sub-Committee meeting, councillors voiced concerns about the balcony's design. The perforated metal, intended to screen balcony paraphernalia and reduce the need for residents to add their own screens, was described as horrific
and lacking privacy. While the intention was to screen balcony paraphernalia
and reduce the need for residents to add their own screens, the design itself was perceived to compromise privacy.

Despite these aesthetic objections, the committee approved the application, subject to a Section 106 agreement. This agreement will secure contributions towards sustainable transport, including a financial contribution of £1,500, the removal of access to parking permits and contracts in council-run car parks, and a 3-year membership of a car club. The decision also included conditions for the submission of details regarding external materials, including the balcony screening and railings, and sound insulation between walls and floors. These details must be submitted prior to the above ground floor slab level being constructed.

Further details on the meeting can be found in the Public reports pack and the Supplementary Agenda.
