Camden Council's Cabinet has approved a £7 million plan for the third phase of roadworks on Kilburn High Road, a decision made at a meeting on Monday, July 6, 2026.
The decision greenlit the procurement strategy for construction works as part of the Better, Safer Kilburn
scheme, which aims to improve road safety, enhance the public realm, and encourage active travel. This collaborative project involves Camden, Brent, and Westminster councils.
This phase of the project will focus on the section of Kilburn High Road between Grangeway and Oxford Road and is expected to take 12 months to complete. During this construction period, residents can expect potential disruptions including temporary traffic management, hoardings, narrowed or diverted footways, uneven surfaces, reduced lighting, unclear signage, and increased noise, dust, and vibration. To mitigate these impacts, a dedicated Community Liaison Officer (CLO) will be appointed to address specific needs and adapt mitigation measures. However, detailed traffic management plans have not yet been released.
The Better, Safer Kilburn
scheme has undergone public consultation, with feedback from a consultation held in Summer 2024 informing the overall proposals, including considerations for accessibility, safety, and environmental impacts. The presence of a CLO is also noted as a key measure to reduce equalities impacts. Specific details on how feedback directly influenced this particular phase are not yet available.
The Cabinet agreed to delegate authority to the Director of Environment and Sustainability to make modifications to the procurement procedure and to the Executive Director Investment, Place and Opportunity to award the contract.
