Islington Council's Islington Working Partnership
has successfully helped nearly 7,000 residents find paid employment, significantly surpassing its target of 5,000. This achievement was a key highlight during the Overview and Scrutiny Committee meeting on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, where the council's corporate performance for the fourth quarter of the 2025-26 financial year was reviewed.
The partnership's success in employment is attributed to addressing fundamental barriers such as financial hardship and disadvantaged backgrounds, aiming to get money into people's pockets
which is absolutely essential
for families.

The partnership's efforts have been a significant contributor to the council's overall positive performance, with 85% of delivery plan metrics rated as 'green' for the period, as detailed in the Public reports pack for the Overview and Scrutiny Committee meeting Public reports pack 14th-Jul-2026 19.00 Overview and Scrutiny Committee.
Beyond employment, the Income Maximisation Team also demonstrated remarkable success, securing over £20 million in additional benefits for residents, far exceeding their £12 million target. This was achieved through several successful benefit take-up campaigns, which used data to proactively identify and support households entitled to benefits but not currently claiming them. Specific campaigns focused on Pension Credit, Attendance Allowance, and Personal Independence Payment (PIP).
Furthermore, the council facilitated over 1,000 apprenticeships, and resident satisfaction at the Access Islington Contact Centre rose to an impressive 87%.
