Barking and Dagenham Council has removed over 200 tonnes of fly-tipped waste and cleared approximately 300 dumped mattresses as part of its ongoing efforts to tackle environmental crime.
The council's Cabinet noted the significant clean-up operation during a performance report on its Corporate Plan Outcomes Framework for quarters three and four of the 2025/2026 financial year.
Councillor Kashif Haroon, Cabinet Member for Environment & Climate Change, highlighted the decisive action taken to address fly-tipping, stating that while there is still more to do, these results demonstrate our commitment to tackling this issue, making the borough cleaner and safer, and continue to invest in effective solutions and community engagement.
The report indicated that alongside the removal of over 200 tonnes of unreported waste and the clearing of around 300 mattresses, more than 1,000 unreported fly-tips were dealt with. This work is in addition to the daily response to reported incidents by the council's fly-tipping collection crews.
The council is also exploring further investment in equipment and technology to enhance its efforts and is encouraging greater community involvement to help keep the borough clean and reduce fly-tipping.
