Hammersmith and Fulham Council's Gangs, Violence and Exploitation Unit (GVEU) has supported 215 young people in the borough, focusing on investigations into county lines and exploitation, intelligence gathering, and multi-agency case conferencing. The unit works with individuals aged 10 to 25 who are involved in or at risk of gang activity and exploitation.
The GVEU, a joint initiative between council professionals and police officers, has provided direct support to 215 young people as of June 2026. Beyond direct intervention, the unit's Projects team has delivered 345 sessions to 3,015 individuals and 125 training sessions to 4,649 individuals. These sessions include workshops on healthy relationships, exploitation, and serious youth violence, as well as skills-building projects in areas such as entrepreneurship, creative arts, sports, and music production.
The unit has also secured significant funding, totalling over £580,000 since the 2024/25 financial year, from the Violence Reduction Unit. This funding, allocated to the My Ends Fund and the Local Community Uplift Fund, has enabled the recruitment of an additional Community Development Outreach Worker and a Graduate Intern, and has supported the delivery of over 20 projects.
In addition to workshops for young people, the GVEU delivers borough-wide sessions for parents and carers covering topics such as gangs, violence, adolescent development, and online influences. A dedicated strand of work also focuses on Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) for girls and young women.
These efforts are part of a broader strategy by Hammersmith and Fulham's Community Safety Unit, which encompasses a range of services including CCTV, emergency planning, and anti-social behaviour initiatives, all aimed at reducing crime and enhancing safety across the borough.
