Two key council decisions regarding parking zones were deferred at Barking and Dagenham's Full Council meeting on Wednesday, 22 July 2026, due to time constraints.

A motion concerning the expansion of Controlled Parking Zones (CPZs) was put forward by Councillor Ben Suter, Leader of the Opposition and Reform UK Group, and ultimately deferred to the next meeting.

Councillor Suter's motion requested a pause on CPZ expansion pending a full review. He highlighted concerns raised by residents about the impact on various groups, stating that CPZs can have significant impacts on disabled residents, carers, older people, shift workers, low-income households, businesses, faith groups and community organisations. 1

The proposed review of existing CPZs would assess their effectiveness, impact on residents and businesses, levels of public support, and any unintended consequences such as parking displacement. The motion also specified that the review would include engagement with ward councillors, residents' groups, businesses, disability organisations, faith groups and other relevant stakeholders.

The motion was seconded by Councillor Alexandra Arnautu. Due to the late hour and time constraints, the council agreed to defer this discussion to a future meeting.
