Lambeth Pension Fund is facing criticism over its investments in illegal settlements
in the West Bank of Palestine, with councillors expressing concerns about the ethical implications and potential reputational damage.
During a Pensions Committee meeting on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, Councillor Peter Woodward urged the committee to reverse previous investment decisions, highlighting the reputational risk to the council. He stated that the issue had been raised at previous meetings without resolution, noting that the chair uses casting votes to stop us even withdrawing investment from the illegal.
Councillor Alan Andrews echoed these concerns, expressing worries about the moral and ethical implications of such investments. Officers confirmed that the fund's risk register would be updated for the next meeting, taking into account new regulations and member comments. The Pension Schemes Bill had passed Parliament, with regulations coming into effect on 30 June 2026, which will be considered as part of this update.
