Hackney Council's Planning Sub-Committee has granted conditional planning permission for the demolition of existing buildings and the construction of a new 4-form entry secondary school for Beis Malka Girls School. The decision was made during a meeting on Wednesday, July 29, 2026.
The approved plans include a new school building, which will be part single-storey and part four-storey, featuring a basement hall and a rooftop play area. The new 4-form entry secondary school is proposed to accommodate a maximum of 400 pupils on site, and will also include a creche for under twos catering for the children of teachers and staff.
Additionally, an existing school building will be refurbished and extended to accommodate administrative offices and a playgroup.
Regarding the impact on local traffic and parking, Highways Officers have raised no concerns, stating that the proposal is unlikely to result in a significant increase in road traffic
as the number of pupils proposed is no greater than the current capacity. The site is proposed to be car-free,
with 0
on-street parking spaces and 2
disabled parking spaces. A significant 62
bicycle storage spaces will be provided. A CPZ exclusion to restrict parking permits being issued is recommended for all users of the proposed site (except those with a blue badge).
A Construction Management Plan (CMP)
will also be required to mitigate any negative impact on the surrounding highway network during the construction phase.
