Harrow Council's Planning Committee has unanimously approved plans to convert the first and second floors of an office block at 51-53 Broadway, Stanmore, into four new residential flats. The decision will see the vacant office space transformed into a mix of one, two, and three-bedroom apartments.

The proposal includes retaining and enlarging a ground-floor commercial unit, described as a flexible class e commercial unit at ground floor level that could be used for office space if the demand is there . This aims to regenerate the area by providing new homes and a more usable commercial space.

Councillors acknowledged that while some aspects of the internal layout, such as ceiling heights in one flat and the absence of private outdoor amenity space, were not ideal, these were outweighed by the benefits of bringing a vacant building back into productive use and delivering much-needed housing in a sustainable town centre location. The decision was made subject to a Section 106 agreement to restrict residents from applying for parking permits, acknowledging the town centre location and its accessibility via public transport.

The restriction on parking permits will be enforced through this Section 106 agreement. The implications for residents who might need occasional parking are not detailed in the meeting information.
