Brent Council is nearing the completion of its new contract database, a significant step towards enhancing its contract management capabilities. The Resources and Public Realm Scrutiny Committee has been briefed on the initiative, which aims to provide a more robust system for overseeing the council's approximately 2,500 contracts.

Officers reported that the new database has been selected and is currently being populated with existing contract information. This database will allow for improved filtering by various criteria, including whether a supplier is a Brent local supplier and whether the contract has social value commitments that need to be tracked and monitored. A dashboard providing a comprehensive overview of all contracts, including renewal dates and departmental breakdowns, is expected to be shared with members in the near future.

The new contract database is described as very almost complete, with files from various Excel spreadsheets being uploaded. It will also serve as the council's procurement tendering platform. This development is part of a broader strategy to strengthen contract management, which is underpinned by three cornerstones: Community Wealth Building, Effective Contract Management, and Leadership, Commercial Capability and Innovation.

The initiative aligns with the council's commitment to prioritising local suppliers and strengthening local economic participation, as well as ensuring that services meet required standards and that suppliers fulfil their commitments. The focus on effective contract management is intended to foster strong commercial practices and explore digital and technology solutions for complex challenges.
