Surbiton Town Centre Partnership is set to bring festive cheer to the local community with plans for a Christmas event on Thursday, December 3rd. The event, which aims to create a vibrant hub around Surbiton Station and along the high street, will run from 4:30 PM to 8:00 PM. The choice of a Thursday was made to engage younger members of the community while they are still at school.
The event will feature a Christmas market in the station forecourt, offering entertainment, craft stalls, and local independent food and drink traders. The station forecourt will be temporarily pedestrianised for stalls, activities, and performers.
Family entertainment is a key focus, with a town-centre discovery trail designed to engage children and families and encourage footfall across local retail streets throughout December. This trail will lead children to various stores and pubs where Santa's reindeer will be located, encouraging exploration and supporting local businesses. Additionally, a community entertainment stage will host performances from local children's school choirs, music, storytelling, and seasonal acts. A silent disco will take place inside the station concourse, offering an engaging activity for commuters, visitors, and families. The event also includes a Visit Santa
experience, delivered in partnership with the local Rotary Club, and a shop window decoration competition to foster a festive atmosphere among local businesses.
The Surbiton Town Centre Partnership is seeking £2,800 in Neighbourhood Community Grant funding for the event. This budget covers the Christmas Trail, Silent Disco, station forecourt activities, promotional flyers, and volunteer equipment. The partnership also plans to seek additional sponsorship from local businesses to enhance the event further.
No public transport diversions are planned for the event day.
