Ealing Council's Safer Neighbourhood Board is facing a funding shortfall of over £6,000 for its proposed community safety projects. The Ealing Safer Neighbourhood Board (ENSB) met on Tuesday, 8 July 2025, to discuss the budget gap and consider options to address it.

The proposed projects, aimed at enhancing community safety and well-being, include women's self-defence courses, youth empowerment programmes, and support for survivors. According to John Martin, the Vice-chair, the total cost of the projects amounts to £24,000, while the ENSB is set to receive £22,787 in funding. This leaves a shortfall of £6,213, which increases to £11,213 when including a sixth project that is currently running behind schedule and is requesting £5000. Details of the projects can be found in the Public Reports Pack.

The projects under consideration are:

  • The Gauntlet Flight Academy Women's Self Defence Courses requesting £5000
  • Znaniye Foundation Safe Strong and Smart : Empowering Young People for a Safer Future requesting £5000
  • Sev Necati Training Personal Safety & Self Defence requesting £5000
  • EASE Survivors Group requesting £4230.
  • Our Moving Stories Creativity & Connection at Open Havelock requesting £4770

Mr. Martin suggested that the Board could tap into its previous years' surplus to cover the deficit. The ENSB currently holds a surplus of £24,476.91. The Board agreed to use the surplus to fill the £11,213 deficit, which includes funding for the sixth project. However, it is not clear what further action or stipulations, if any, will be taken regarding the sixth project that is currently running behind schedule.

Furthermore, the Board will need to decide which projects are presented to MOCAP, an organisation not defined in the Public Reports Pack.
