Enfield Council is proposing to introduce 30 minutes of free parking per vehicle per day across the borough in an effort to boost local economic activity and town centre footfall. The proposal, which will be subject to statutory consultation, aims to enhance the attractiveness and competitiveness of Enfield's high streets.
Under the proposed changes, the existing 15-minute and 30-minute tariffs for on-street parking would be removed. The shortest chargeable tariff would then start at one hour. For off-street car parks, the current 45-minute free parking bays at Lodge Drive and Fords Grove would be eliminated. These would be replaced by the borough-wide free 30-minute session, a move intended to improve economic activity, increase town centre footfall, and enhance the attractiveness of Enfield's high streets
by providing a consistent free parking offer across the borough.
The free 30-minute parking period will be limited to one session per vehicle per day. Once a vehicle has utilised its free 30-minute parking session, any subsequent parking session on the same day at another participating location within the borough, on or off-street, will be charged at the applicable tariff rate.
For periods longer than 30 minutes, the proposed new tariffs are as follows: on-street locations will see the next chargeable tariff starting at one hour
priced at £3.30. For Other Car Parks (Monday to Saturday)
, the tariff for 1 Hour will be £1.60, 1-3 Hours will be £3.10, 3-5 Hours will be £7.10, and Over 5 Hours will be £11.50. The removal of shorter chargeable tariffs means the first chargeable period will now start at one hour on-street and 30 minutes off-street.
Enfield Council's Cabinet agreed to proceed with the statutory consultation on these proposed parking tariff amendments at their meeting on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. The Executive Director of Environment & Communities, in consultation with the Cabinet Member for Environment, will determine whether to proceed with implementation following consideration of all consultation responses.
