Kingston upon Thames' South of the Borough Neighbourhood Committee has approved a £3,000 grant for the Baby BRITE Box project, which aims to support families with early years nutrition and development.

The funding, awarded to the charity Voices of Hope, will enable the project to be implemented and evaluated at Chessington Children's Centre. Over a six-week period, approximately ten families will benefit from weekly boxes containing healthy ingredients, recipes, and essential weaning equipment. The estimated cost per family for this intervention is £84, with the £3,000 grant covering the majority of the project's £3,014 budget.

The Baby BRITE Box project aligns with the South of the Borough Neighbourhood Community Plan's priorities for physical and mental health, supporting vulnerable residents, and creating new opportunities within the neighbourhood. The project has been developed based on the successful BRITE Box food insecurity initiative and has already undergone a pilot phase with positive feedback received from Public Health teams in Westminster, Kingston, and Surrey.

Following this successful pilot, Voices of Hope are seeking to implement and evaluate the adapted programme at Chessington Children's Centre to assess its effectiveness in meeting local needs and ensuring it is appropriately tailored to the community context. The project's outcomes and impact will be monitored through a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods, including regular data collection via structured feedback forms, ongoing direct engagement with families, and an academic evaluation partnership with Kingston University and London Metropolitan University.

With the right support, Baby BRITE Box has the potential to become a scalable, system-aligned solution to improving early childhood nutrition and reducing long-term health inequalities.
