Residents of Middlesex Street Estate are facing a significant mosquito problem, with stagnant water pooling on the south-east corner of the podium creating ideal breeding conditions. The issue, which has never been experienced on this scale before, has led some residents to resort to using mosquito nets.
An update received by the City of London's Housing Management and Almshouses Sub-Committee on Monday, 14 September 2026, revealed that the cause of the water pooling is not yet clear, nor is the funding for remedial work established. Residents are concerned that the water may be collecting beneath the movable paving tiles on the podium.
