Islington schools have demonstrated strong performance in provisional results for 2026, with several key stages exceeding national averages.

The Islington Schools Support Programme, which pilots targeted support for schools, has been highlighted as a key initiative driving improvements across various educational stages. This data-led programme, supported by a dedicated data team, involves annual meetings with headteachers and senior leadership to identify school-specific challenges, horizon scan for risks, and provide early, targeted support. Termly visits are also conducted with a more focused approach.

The Early Years Foundation Stage Profile (EYFSP) saw a 2.8 percentage point increase in the Good Level of Development (GLD) to 70.6%, placing Islington on track to meet the Department for Education's 2028 target. Phonics outcomes at the expected standard also rose significantly by 5.5 percentage points to 83.2%, marking a 38-place improvement in local authority rankings. The programme's whole purpose is to drive school improvement in very targeted ways, with a specific focus on maths attainment and understanding any dips in performance observed in specific years.
