Southwark Council is standardising on UiPath for Robotic Process Automation (RPA) deployments, according to a report presented at the Joint IT Committee (Brent, Lewisham and Southwark) meeting on Tuesday, 8 July 2025.
The move is part of a broader effort to streamline repetitive, rule-based tasks across the council, freeing up staff to focus on more complex and strategic work. The council aims to expand automation, improve service delivery, and reduce costs, according to the report.
Southwark has standardised on UiPath for RPA deployments[1]. The council is already seeing benefits from RPA, with bots automating invoice checks and customer profile updates in the finance system. According to the Joint IT Committee reports pack, bots have processed 24,000 of 60,000 invoices. Staff are also encouraged to contact their Business Partner if they identify processes suitable for automation.
The council is also taking a strategic approach to Artificial Intelligence (AI), with a focus on scaling AI across the council to support smarter, data-driven services. A council-wide guide outlines the benefits and risks of GenAI tools like Copilot and ChatGPT, addressing key concerns such as data privacy, misinformation, and accountability.
