Croydon Council's Ethics Committee convened on 9 July 2025, and reviewed several ethics complaints, noting that two had been withdrawn.
The update on ethics complaints received in the first quarter of 2025, up to and including 31 March 2025, revealed that the Monitoring Officer received four complaints since the last report. The Monitoring Officer, Stephen Lawrence-Orumwense (Director of Legal & Governance), is a senior officer of the Council with the statutory responsibility for maintaining the register of Members' interests and administering the system for complaints of Member misconduct.
Two of these complaints were withdrawn because they pertained to officer conduct and were referred to corporate complaints. For the remaining two complaints, the complainants have not provided the additional information needed in order to consider the complaints at assessment stage.
Four complaints were received in the first quarter of 2025. According to the minutes of the meeting held on 4 March 2025, two complaints were received in the fourth quarter of 2024, 14 complaints were received the previous year and 43 the year before that.
